OBER GATLINBURG SKI RESORT: Book SigningGatlinburg, Tennessee - Seventeen-year-old William L. Yancey will be signing copies of his debut novel, Peacekeeper, at Ober Gatlinburg’s downtown tramway mall on Tuesday, March 16 from 2-4 p.m.
Peacekeeper is a work of fantasy fiction focusing on the youth, Henry, who is forced along the journey to manhood when everything he once took for granted is stripped from him by fate. Oblivious to the dark forces stirring in the world around him, he is pulled into the clutches of reality to awaken to the truth of who he really is. Through sadness, adventure, war, and love, Henry overcomes his meager beginnings to claim the role he was born to play.
From the small town of Glencoe, Alabama, Yancey and his family vacation frequently in the Smoky Mountains. One of his favorite places, the city of Gatlinburg -the tramway at Ober Gatlinburg in particular- served as inspiration for a major city in his novel. The city of Sabestre, nestled in the mountains of Mytrepolla, is home of the Sabestre lift. The author describes the Sabestre lift as a “marvel of engineering.” An anachronistic version of Ober Gatlinburg’s aerial tramway, the lift is powered by a hydraulic system in which an operator controls the flow of water over an enormous paddle wheel.
Yancey began writing Peacekeeper at the age of thirteen. The book was a labor of love for him, incorporating his interests in swordplay, a variety of mythologies, and, of course, Gatlinburg. Copies of the novel will be available for purchase at the book signing, or online at peacekeepernovel.com.
